Blue Catapult Announces Support for 3 Candidates Wednesday,
March 1, 2006Darcy Burner is running against incumbent Republican
Dave Reichert in the 8th Congressional District in Washington State. Darcy has
worked in the high tech industry, including positions at Microsoft, where she
headed the Microsoft women's organization, Hoppers. She is running on a platform
that includes a Woman's right to choose, investing in the environment, and fully
implementing the recommendations by the 9/11 Commission. Eric Massa,
a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, is running against Republican incumbent
Randy Kuhl in New York's 29th Congressional District. Eric spent a career in the
Navy, serving on nine ships and working during operations in Beirut and Desert
Storm. He was a Special Assistant for Congressional Affairs for then-Supreme Allied
Commander General Wesley Clark. If elected, Eric wants to give current members
of the military and veterans the benefits and compensation they deserve. He wants
to reform Social Security by making sure that those who are in the system get
what they have been promised, and to have higher income earners pay their fair
share into Social Security. Chris Carney is running against Republican
Don Sherwood in Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District. An Associate Professor
at Penn State, Chris is also a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves and has
served overseas. Chris Has a plan to win in Iraq and leave with honor, explaining
that a U.S. battalion should return home for every Iraqi battalion that is activated.
Chris wants to focus our defense resources on real homeland security, especially
front-line responders such as police and medical personnel. He also supports policies
to make the U.S. less dependent on fossil fuels, and he wants to reform health
care so that the 45 million uninsured Americans will get healthcare benefits. At
the Blue Catapult Launch Event on March 8th, a large
portion of our contributions from that night went to these Democratic challengers'
campaigns. These are the type of candidates and races which, if funded, can become
very competitive and will give the Democrats the chance to gain the Majority in
Congress. Blue Catapult will help other worthy Democratic Challengers in
the future.
